Vacancy for Creative Facilitator

Rapa'i, a Banda Aceh based NGO working on a five month program in collaboration with the International Organization for Migration (IOM) is looking for a Creative Facilitator according to the terms of reference below. Duration                            : five months with possible extension.

Program Description:   
A total of 960 vulnerable youth, 120 each from eight selected conflict affected districts of Aceh, will under go a two-day peace socialization program at three different locations of each district. A famed Acehnese singer Rafly and a few members of an equally famed band Kande will facilitate these peace socialization workshops towards an attitude and behavioral change through the tools of music. In addition a modest artistic activity will be planned to involve the entire team in each location in working together and developing a region specific piece of art that will be then taken to each location thereafter – at the end of the program 24 pieces of collective artistic expressions will be developed and made into one whole. During this four month program 10 youth each with special talent will be selected from each district totaling 80 who will then undergo a special skill training for three weeks. A young male or preferably a female is been required to assist the artistic segment of this program for a period of five months beginning from 1 February 2009. Following are the scope of work for this candidate:

Job Description:   
Under the direct supervision of the Program Manager of Rapa'i the successful candidate will be responsible for leading the youth participants towards the desired goals of the program, initiating their creative artistic expressions and motivating them towards group cohesion and collective activities. In particular s/he will:
In cycle 1 - Peace Socialization
1.    Observe individual participation and encourage group dynamics during the entire two-day workshops to be held at 24 locations in eight districts of Aceh, namely Aceh Tengah, Bener Meriah, Aceh Tenggara, Gayo Lues, Aceh Selatan, Aceh Utara, Bireuen and Aceh Timur;
2.    Encourage individuals in personal expressions of creativity and assist them in collectively developing an idea for a 2 dimensional or 3 dimensional artistic expression;
3.    Assist the participants in obtaining and/or purchasing additional materials needed for the joint development of the artistic expression decided by the team;
4.    Assist the team in collectively developing the joint artistic expression ensuring each and every members mandatory participation;
5.    Assist the 40 participants at each of the 24 workshops to complete their tasks together with members of the Rapa'i team;
6.    Assist the Rapa'i team in photo documenting of activities during workshop sessions.

In cycle 2 - Special Skill Training on Music and Vocals for 80 selected Clients
1.    Identify, develop and facilitate suitable evening sessions to stimulate creativity, enhance a spirit of teamwork and sharpen leadership qualities based on the experiences during cycle 1 of the program and the observed strengths and weaknesses of the 80 selected individuals;
2.    Introduce as and when needed and facilitate some refresher activities in between the sessions;
3.    Organize in consultation with the Rapa'i staff, two one-day extra curricula activities.

Desirable Qualifications:
A minimum of one year relevant experience in working with youth utilizing group leadership and motivation skills with an International or relevant national agency/organization or media outlet. Previous work experience with Aceh and familiarity with peace-building and reintegration issues pertaining to the ongoing peace process, PR experience liaising with journalists, national media etc, ability to prepare clear and concise reports required will be a distinct advantage. Excellent communication and negotiation skills, strong organizational skills, drive for results and effective people skills with a demonstrated track record working effectively with colleagues from linguistically and culturally diverse backgrounds is the foundation for this position. Your own ability in artistic expression although not mandatory, will be highly desirable. A thorough knowledge of Bahasa Indonesia (Spoken/written) and a reasonable spoken English is mandatory.
